Chishtian police accused of gross negligence as ‘fake call’ turns deadly, citizen critically injured in second firing incident
CHISHTIAN: The city’s Saddar police have come under severe criticism over alleged negligence and complicity after a citizen was critically injured in a second firing incident within days, following police failure to act on an initial report.
According to sources, on May 16, 2026, at exactly 12:55 PM, Muhammad Waqas, son of Muhammad Ilyas, a resident of 8 Gajiani, called police helpline 15 and officially reported that he and his companions had been fired upon by rivals in public. However, instead of reaching the scene and taking legal action, SHO Saddar Police Station Syed Amir Hussain Shah allegedly dismissed the serious report as a “fake call” and marked the case as closed.
Residents claim that this alleged police backing and willful ignorance emboldened the accused to the extent that they once again opened fire in public within city limits. A citizen was critically injured in the second incident and was shifted to a hospital, where his condition is reported to be serious.
“If Saddar police had taken immediate and strict legal action on the first call, this dangerous firing incident in the middle of the city would not have occurred, and the lives of citizens would not have been put at risk,” local residents said.
Journalists, social groups, and civil society members have expressed outrage over the alleged incompetence of SHO Syed Amir Hussain Shah. Citizens have demanded that the officer be removed and a high-level inquiry be conducted.
