All Local Bodies in Balochistan to Be Dissolved on February 8, 2027, New Elections Announced
QUETTA – The Balochistan Cabinet has approved the dissolution of all local bodies across the province on February 8 next year upon the completion of their constitutional term. The cabinet’s decision has cleared the path for holding new local government elections in all districts.
Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting on Friday, Chief Minister’s Adviser Shahid Rand said the cabinet has decided that all matters related to district creation, delimitation, and judicial decisions will be placed before the Election Commission of Pakistan before the new local body elections to establish a practical and legal framework for the polls.
He clarified that despite the decision to divide Quetta city into two districts, local government elections will be held simultaneously with other areas of the province to maintain uniformity in the electoral process.
To strengthen the local government system, the cabinet approved the establishment of new municipal committees in Dera Khetrans and Breshore, while Kharan was granted the status of a municipal corporation.
The cabinet also approved proposed amendments to the Balochistan Right to Information Commission Act 2021 to improve transparency. In another significant decision, all session judges, additional session judges, and first-class judicial magistrates across the province have been authorized to conduct trials of drug-related cases.
To improve law and order, the cabinet approved the establishment of new police stations in Hub and Dam, as well as a women’s police station in Dalbandin.
