Multiple Water Filtration Plants in Bahawalnagar Remain Non-Functional, Residents Demand Action
BAHAWALNAGAR – Several water filtration plants established over various periods to provide clean drinking water in Bahawalnagar have become non-functional, leaving citizens deprived of this basic facility. Residents and social circles have demanded that authorities take immediate notice and restore the closed filtration plants.
Mian Mushtaq Ahmad Joya, an official of a human rights organization, stated in an interview that while public representatives installed water filtration plants in various areas, most of these projects are not operational and the public is receiving no practical benefit from them.
He revealed that the filtration plant established in Jodhiyana Basti reportedly never functioned fully even for a single day after installation, while filtration plants in Faisal Colony and Regra Basti have also remained closed for a long period.
Similarly, the filtration plant in Waqla Colony on Chishtian Road is barely supplying water, while the plant on Jail Road is completely non-functional. The filtration plant in Model Town is also reportedly in a state of disrepair and poor maintenance.
Residents stated that government resources were spent on these water filtration plants, but due to a lack of proper supervision and maintenance, these projects have lost their utility. They argued that the unavailability of clean water during the summer season has further increased public hardships.
Civil Society representatives have urged the Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar to conduct an immediate survey of all non-functional filtration plants and restore them to provide clean and safe drinking water to citizens.
Residents said that elected public representatives should also pay attention to this important issue and ensure continuous monitoring and effective operation of development projects rather than limiting their role to inauguration ceremonies.
Local residents emphasized that clean water is a basic right of every citizen, and it is the responsibility of relevant authorities to take practical steps to provide this fundamental facility to the public.
