New Karachi Town Inaugurates Four Model Streets, Chairman Calls for Greater Local Control of Civic Services

KARACHI: Chairman New Karachi Town Muhammad Yousuf inaugurated four newly developed model streets in Sector 11-B, North Karachi, reaffirming the town administration’s commitment to improving civic infrastructure despite limited financial resources.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Jamaat-e-Islami District North Ameer Tariq Mujtaba, Vice Chairman Shoaib Bin Zaheer, union council chairmen, vice chairmen, councillors, town officials and local residents.

The newly completed projects include Khayaban Mansoor, Khayaban Bhatti, Khayaban Shamim, and Syed Khalil Ahmed Community Cluster. The streets have been upgraded with road carpeting and paver blocks, incorporating modern construction standards to improve durability, aesthetics and public convenience.

Addressing the ceremony, Chairman Muhammad Yousuf said development work across New Karachi Town is progressing steadily and that commitments made to residents are being fulfilled in phases. He stated that the objective of elected local representatives is not merely to make announcements but to deliver practical solutions to citizens’ everyday problems.

He noted that despite financial constraints, the town administration continues to invest in roads, streets and other public infrastructure projects. Referring to civic challenges, he said many neighbourhoods in New Karachi continue to experience severe water shortages and criticized the performance of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB), arguing that ineffective service delivery has increased hardships for residents.

Muhammad Yousuf said New Karachi Town has spent nearly Rs100 million from its limited budget on water supply and sewerage-related works to provide relief to citizens. He stressed that transferring the management of water and sanitation services to elected local governments would improve accountability and enable faster resolution of public issues.

He further stated that the town has already completed the construction and rehabilitation of 1,000 streets, while work on additional roads and neighbourhood infrastructure is progressing rapidly. The administration, he said, remains committed to creating a cleaner, safer and more modern urban environment for residents.
