Federal budget proposes billions for Karachi infrastructure, Green Line bus and healthcare projects
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to allocate funds for various ongoing development projects in Karachi in the upcoming budget. According to sources, significant amounts have been proposed for transportation, infrastructure, water supply, drainage, and healthcare projects across different districts of the city.
For the Green Line Bus service in Karachi, a proposal has been made to allocate Rs198 crore (Rs1.98 billion). Funds have also been proposed for roads, streets, drainage, and water supply projects across multiple districts of the metropolitan city.
District West Karachi has been allocated Rs26 crore for infrastructure rehabilitation. For Nazimabad and Liaquatabad, Rs37 crore has been proposed for infrastructure rehabilitation works. In Landhi, Zaman Town, and Korangi Town, Rs35 crore has been proposed for roads, water supply, drainage, and playgrounds. For District Central, Rs4.5 crore has been allocated for roads, streets, water supply, and drainage projects.
For District Korangi and Malir, Rs5 crore has been proposed for roads, streets, and drainage works. The federal budget also includes proposals to launch several new projects in Karachi.
According to official documents, Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre Karachi has been allocated Rs40 crore. The National Research and Fertility Care upgradation project has been allocated Rs39 crore. For the establishment of the National University of Nursing in Karachi, Rs5 crore has been proposed.
The proposed allocations reflect the federal government’s commitment to addressing Karachi’s long-standing infrastructure and civic issues. The city, which serves as Pakistan’s economic hub, has faced decades of neglect in terms of roads, drainage, water supply, and healthcare facilities.
Local government experts have welcomed the proposed funds but emphasized the need for timely release and transparent utilization of the allocated amounts. They also stressed the importance of proper monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the funds are used for their intended purposes and benefit the citizens of Karachi.
The federal budget is expected to be presented in the National Assembly in the coming weeks. Once approved, the development funds will be released to the relevant departments for implementation of these projects across Karachi.
