D.I.Khan Police Mediate Permanent Peace Agreement Between Mohana and Suleman Khel Tribes

Dera Ismail Khan: The Dera Police have successfully brokered a permanent peace agreement between the Mohana and Suleman Khel tribes as part of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ghulam Mubashir Mekan’s initiative to resolve longstanding tribal disputes and strengthen community peace across Dera Division.

According to the police, the RPO had directed all District Police Officers (DPOs) across the four districts of Dera Range to document longstanding feuds, establish special committees comprising police officers, members of the Dispute Resolution Council (DRC), and respected community elders, and facilitate negotiations to resolve conflicts through dialogue.

Acting on these directives, Band Korai Police Station and local elders successfully resolved a serious dispute between the Mohana and Suleman Khel tribes. The conflict, which reportedly originated over a family-related issue involving women, had escalated over time, creating a risk of violent retaliation between the two communities.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Band Korai, along with local elders, conducted extensive negotiations and confidence-building efforts before bringing both parties to the negotiating table. Following prolonged discussions, the two tribes agreed to end their longstanding hostility, formally reconcile, and commit to maintaining peace, mutual respect, and adherence to the law.

The RPO and DPO Dera Ismail Khan praised the successful reconciliation as a strong example of effective coordination between the police, the Dispute Resolution Council, and community leaders. They also acknowledged the constructive role played by local elders in promoting lasting peace.

Police officials urged citizens to resolve personal, family, and tribal disputes through legal and institutional mechanisms instead of resorting to violence. They encouraged people to approach the local police or District Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) to settle conflicts through dialogue and lawful means.

The Dera Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and promoting lasting peace and social harmony throughout the region.
