Karachi Mayor Announces Rs14 Billion Road Rehabilitation Programme Covering 139 Roads

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced a Rs14 billion road rehabilitation programme under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, aimed at reconstructing and rehabilitating 139 roads across all districts of the city. The large-scale development initiative includes road reconstruction, drainage improvements, water supply line rehabilitation, and the installation and upgrading of street lighting to enhance Karachi’s municipal infrastructure and public services. Speaking at a high-level review meeting at the KMC Head Office, the mayor said Karachi was entering a new phase of development after years of neglect and emphasized that the projects were designed not only to improve roads but also to restore public confidence in civic institutions.

He said the Sindh government was providing full support for the programme and directed all departments to ensure transparency, quality workmanship, and timely completion of every scheme. Mayor Wahab also stated that he would personally monitor both the procurement process and the execution of the projects to ensure that construction standards were maintained.

During the meeting, KMC Director General Technical Services Tariq Mughal informed participants that the tendering process for road rehabilitation, drainage works, water supply infrastructure, and electrical installations had been completed in accordance with procurement rules. He added that work orders would be issued shortly, with construction to begin in phases across the city.
