Sindh Govt Orders Joint Action Plan to Resolve Karachi’s Civic Problems

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah and Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah jointly chaired a high-level meeting to review Karachi’s key civic challenges, including infrastructure, encroachments, traffic congestion, water supply, sewerage, solid waste management and illegal construction.

The Chief Secretary directed all relevant departments to prepare a coordinated, time-bound action plan, emphasizing that Karachi’s long-standing problems require permanent solutions rather than short-term campaigns. He also instructed authorities to improve coordination to prevent repeated excavation of newly constructed roads.

Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said development projects should translate into better roads and improved municipal services for citizens. He directed local government institutions to strengthen field monitoring, ensure timely completion of projects, and intensify action against encroachments on roads, footpaths, stormwater drains and government land.

The meeting also decided to establish an effective monitoring mechanism to prevent illegal encroachments and instructed officials to identify major traffic bottlenecks and prepare area-specific traffic management plans.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, senior provincial officials, the Karachi Commissioner, police representatives and other stakeholders attended the meeting and reviewed measures aimed at improving civic services across the city.
