NAB Launches Fresh Inquiry Against Prime Suspect in Rs8.5 Billion Yellow Line Corruption Case

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated a fresh inquiry against Zameer Abbasi, the prime suspect in the alleged Rs8.5 billion Yellow Line corruption case, over accusations of possessing assets beyond his known sources of income and alleged illegal appointments and promotions in the Sindh government.

According to sources, NAB has sought details of movable and immovable properties registered in the names of Abbasi, his wife, children and other family members as part of its investigation into his financial assets.

The development comes after the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Sindh registered a case against Abbasi and other officials in June 2026 over alleged financial irregularities in the Karachi Mobility Project (KMP). An inquiry report alleged that advance payments worth Rs8.5 billion were made to contractors without bank guarantees, despite the absence of any contractual provision allowing such payments.

Sources further claimed that some of Abbasi’s appointments and promotions in government service had previously been challenged in court over alleged irregularities.

Abbasi, a Grade-19 Sindh government officer, was earlier arrested by the ACE in Lahore and brought to Karachi, where an anti-corruption court rejected his post-arrest bail application. The latest NAB inquiry is expected to further widen the scope of the investigation into the high-profile corruption case.
