Punjab Completes 1,129 Road Projects in 75 Days, Saves Rs11 Billion, Says CM Maryam Nawaz

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that the Punjab Government has completed the construction and rehabilitation of 1,129 roads within just 75 days, setting what she described as a new benchmark for the timely execution of development projects while saving Rs11 billion through efficient implementation.

The announcement was made during a review meeting of development projects undertaken by the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, where officials presented progress on road infrastructure and rural connectivity initiatives across the province.

According to a briefing by C&W Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, Punjab has completed the construction and rehabilitation of 32,000 kilometres of roads over the past two and a half years. Between April and July this year alone, around 6,000 kilometres of roads were constructed or repaired, including a 1,795-kilometre road network completed in just 75 days at a cost of Rs30 billion.

Commending the department’s performance, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed officials to ensure proper lane markings on all provincial highways. She also approved the establishment of six modern service areas along the Lahore Ring Road, which are expected to generate approximately Rs500 million in annual revenue. The service areas are scheduled to become operational by December this year.

The meeting also reviewed progress under the “Sohna Pind, Sohniyan Rahwan” rural roads programme. Officials informed the Chief Minister that 1,567 projects, covering 3,400 kilometres of roads, had been completed under the Local Roads Programme at a cost of Rs79 billion.

The department further reported that field staff worked in three shifts to ensure timely completion of projects and confirmed that all 124 flood-damaged roads had been restored. For the new fiscal year, 42 new road projects have been included in the development programme, supported by the approval of Rs51 billion in new development funds.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to submit final completion timelines for all ongoing road projects, reaffirming that quality infrastructure, safer highways, and improved rural and urban connectivity remain key priorities of the Punjab Government.
